Water Bead Activities

If you’ve not yet discovered, water beads are awesome. Great for sensory activities such as seek-and-find tubs, fill-and-pour, and the latest activity my kids’ and I have been loving…painting!

Here’s how we did it:

1) Grab a container of any kind. Can be a pie pan, cookie sheet, plastic tub, or (as we settled on), a cake pan.

2) Place a piece of paper/cardstock/canvas at the bottom of said container.

3) Add in a few squirts of washable paint.

4) Dump in a few water beads, and start rolling them around to distribute the paint!

Quick tip: You only have to move/angle the container a bit at a time to get the beads to roll. (I would caution you and your kiddos to roll gently…if you move the container too fast, the beads will definitely fly out. If possible, I recommend doing this activity outdoors.)

After a few minutes, you’ll have a fun piece of art which you can take out of the container to let dry, and then just replace with another clean paper. Plus, If you use blank greeting cards to paint on; after they dry, you can send them to loved ones, or use them as birthday or holiday cards.

Happy painting!!

*ps. I’m not totally sure how environmentally friendly these little things are….so, my apologies to the Earth for the amount of water beads we’ve used. Though, you can use them multiple times. Just, rinse after each use and save in a re-usable container!
